You don’t need a once-in-a-lifetime job to take pride in your work and you don’t have to be a lone wolf in your industry to have a passion for what you do. Job satisfaction is often the result of passion and pride, not the cause of it.
When Danny Garcia shows up to work every morning at Cove, a 19-story high-rise building in Marina Del Rey, he is does so because he is passionate about improving the quality of people’s lives and he looks forward to taking pride in his work at the end of each day.
As the lead building engineer on site, Danny oversees two other engineers to ensure that all the systems in the building are functioning as they should.
Given Action Property Management’s expansive presence in California’s high-rise management industry, opportunities for advancement are abundant and over the years Danny has taken advantage of several opportunities that have been presented to him.
When he first joined the workforce as a young man, Danny got a job with a construction company that specialized in office construction and renovation. From there he joined another company as an apprentice electrician working primarily on residential properties.
The boom and bust nature of construction combined with his growing family, prompted Danny to start looking for new opportunities. It was during a slow period that he was first introduced to the idea of putting his skills to work in a high-rise setting.
In 2013 after meeting with John Ramirez, Action’s Regional Manager of Engineering Services, Danny was offered a position at 1100 Wilshire in Downtown Los Angeles as a maintenance technician. From there he moved to West Ocean, another one of Action’s high-rise properties in Long Beach, California. With an undeterred passion for his job, Danny thrived in the fast-paced environment of the two towers. Given his willingness to learn and a drive to pursue opportunities, Danny soon felt that he was ready for a new challenge.
About two years after he joined the team at West Ocean, Action secured a new account that involved the revitalization of Solair, a building in the Koreatown neighborhood of Los Angeles. Aware that Danny was always looking to advance his career, John Ramirez again called on him to help with the new account as the number two engineer on staff.
When he took John’s call, Danny knew the building was a new one for Action and that the lead engineer position was also vacant. Given his passion for work, Danny countered John’s offer by suggesting he take the lead at the building.
The next call he got was again from John, this time presenting him with a list of problems at Solair and an offer for him to take the lead on solving them. Danny eagerly accepted and got to work repairing, replacing, and cleaning the various systems in the building. For the next four years, he poured himself into his job, doing everything he could to make it feel like the home each of the residents expected it to be.
Four years later, Danny again took advantage of Action’s vast network of buildings and moved into his current job as the lead building engineer at Cove where he and his team won the Most Improved Building award.
Outside of work, Danny is a family man with a wife, two sons, and a young daughter. Much of their family time revolves around riding dirt bikes in the desert or on motocross tracks around Southern California. They also enjoy camping along the beach or a lake. Though his daughter is still too young to even ride a bicycle, Danny has hopes that she will one day join the family fun.
Danny’s formula for success is based off of a simple model: have a passion for your work, take pride in what you do, and always be flexible enough to accept the next challenge. By applying these principles to his lengthy tenure at Action Property Management, Danny has impacted life for countless people in the high-rise community, but it doesn’t stop there. His work at Action has also been a series of opportunities to impact life for his own family because passion and pride lead to the greatest reward of all: providing.
