High Expectations
The price tags that come with luxurious high-rise living create certain expectations. Residents assume the lights will always turn on, the pipes will always flow, and the air will always feel just right. They expect the pool and spa water to stay clear and comfortable too.
The building engineer keeps these systems running smoothly, ideally catching and fixing issues before residents even notice.
A Steady Routine
Each morning, Chief Building Engineer Angel Nunez arrives at Azzurra in Marina Del Rey and checks for any overnight issues. Right after that, he and his team complete a two-hour building inspection. They then meet to map out the day’s action plan. This steady routine keeps the property in top shape.
Leadership Beyond His Years
At only 31 years old, Angel stands out as a young leader in his role. His calm, thoughtful approach has earned him respect and results. He focuses on long-term solutions and makes sure his team gets each job done right the first time. With this mindset, Angel and his team meet the high expectations that come with maintaining a 20-story luxury building.
A Natural Talent
Angel’s talent for fixing things comes naturally. Before starting his career, he worked on car repairs and customization. As a kid, he spent summers learning mechanical skills from his father. Over time, Angel realized that working with cars would stay a hobby, while building systems could offer a strong career path.
A Breakthrough Opportunity
A neighbor, who worked as an electrician, noticed Angel’s potential and invited him to help out. At first, Angel’s main job was simply to ride along in the carpool lane. Soon enough, though, he was assisting with real electrical work.

A Broad Range of Skills
After high school, Angel joined a general contractor who was starting an electrical division. When work was sometimes slow, he helped out with carpentry, plumbing, and whatever else was needed. Consequently, this hands-on experience gave him a broad skill set across many trades.
An Introduction to Action
Eventually, the contractor became a preferred vendor for Action Property Management. As a result, Angel started working in large Los Angeles buildings, where he got to know many building engineers. Through this exposure, he discovered the high level of service expected in luxury properties.
Learning Through Experience
One day, while working inside a luxury building, a fire alarm sounded. Angel watched how calmly Regional Engineering Supervisor John Ramirez handled the situation. In particular, John’s leadership made a big impression on him. Experiences like that helped Angel realize he wanted to become a building engineer himself.
The Next Step
Soon after, Angel was hired as a roving engineer for Action. In this role, he filled in at several different properties, gaining valuable experience and building strong connections.
Making His Mark at The Broadway Hollywood
After about a year, Angel was asked to temporarily cover an opening at The Broadway Hollywood. The building, originally built in 1928, is a famous Los Angeles landmark. Angel made a strong impression there and, with support from the Board President, was eventually offered the permanent position.
A Lasting Impact
Historic buildings like The Broadway Hollywood always have maintenance needs, even after a major renovation in 2007. During his time there, Angel worked hard to keep the building running smoothly. Over five years, he became a key player on the team, even helping identify a serious roof leak that ultimately led to a $3.9 million settlement for repairs.
New Challenges at Azzurra
In 2021, Action Property Management honored Angel with their Building of the Year award for his efforts. Later that year, a new opportunity opened at Azzurra, a modern high-rise in Marina Del Rey. At just 27 years old, Angel stepped up to the role of Chief Building Engineer, ready for a new challenge.
Focused on the Future
Today, Angel continues to lead his team at Azzurra. He sees each day as a fresh chance to serve others and improve their living experience. His goal is to ensure that, like The Broadway Hollywood, Azzurra will one day be known as a lasting, iconic property.
