The core of anything successful starts with the people. Action prides itself on having not just good people, but the best. Gina Gorman, the general manager of Madrone in San Francisco is an exceptional example of going above and beyond for her residents and the community itself.
Growing up in a family that has always given back to the community, Gina cannot remember a time in her life that she wasn’t involved with charitable organizations. Gina said, “Giving back to the community is our own way to share the blessings we receive everyday.”
Having worked at Action for 2 years, it was important for Gina to combine her work with her community involvement. With Gina’s guidance, Madrone has created relationships with 3 separate organizations. Juma helps poverty-stricken students become college graduates. These kids are typically the first in their family to receive a degree. NOMAD gardens find empty lots in developing neighborhoods and fill it with plots of dirt to allow the community to create its own garden. Lastly, each year, Madrone residents fill barrels of toys for children to benefit the San Francisco Fire Department Toy Program. This program provides children with toys to open on Christmas who may otherwise not receive a one.
“The residents want to be involved and the team is as passionate as I am in helping people,” shared Gina. “With a great combo of people eager to get involved and jump into action, it creates a great community.”
Having special people like Gina and the residents of Madrone, Action is able to have a positive impact in many places. It is important to give back and Action is proud to do so.
